EM Risk Management's Case Managers Hard at Work....

EM's Sharon Miller and Kathy McEntire culminated their 2007 ad hoc committee participation by attending presentations by Task Force Committee representatives addressing Medical Guidelines for NYS Workers' Compensation. Pamela Caggianelli and Dr. James Tacci, Task Force Committee representatives from the Business sector, and Bruce Topman, Executive Director NYS Workers' Compensation Task Force New York State Insurance Department, provided updates and status on reform and information regarding the proposed guidelines.

Beginning late spring, Sharon, Kathy and the ad hoc committee members researched guidelines, "experience" in other States and the impact of those experiences. Committee findings became the basis for discussions at the Medical Guideline Task Force representing various interested parties across the State.

The Task Force's consensus on guidelines was proposed to the Workers' Compensation Board in December 2007.

Sharon's experience with medical guidelines, criteria sets, utilization review and case management, coupled with Kathy's experience in the employer setting and with multi-state Workers' Compensation laws, complemented the expertise of other members of the ad hoc panel of business consultants, Carriers/TPAs and medical professionals.

The ad hoc committee will next address impairment, and conversion to lost wage capacity and processes for implementation and training of the proposed guidelines.
